Selfish Machines by Pierce The Veil free essay sample

â€Å"Without you there is no me.† These are well know lines from one of my personal favorite bands. Pierce The Veil performed at Summit Music Hall in Downtown Denver on December 15th, 2011. They were one of four bands that performed that night. Pierce The Veil is a band that originated in San Diego, California. The band is described as â€Å"emo-Inflected post-hardcore.† Vic Fuentes (vocalist), Mike Fuentes (drummer), Tony Perry (lead guitar), and then finally Jaime Preciado are the four members of the band. That night they preformed six songs from their newest album; Selfish Machines. The first song that they performed was â€Å"The Boy Who Could Fly†. This song was the best song that they could start off with. It’s one of their most upbeat songs and it got the crowd jumping. They were very energetic one stage. They did a lot of jumping around and they used the stage very well. We will write a custom essay sample on Selfish Machines by Pierce The Veil or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page They did this throughout their entire set. During their performance of â€Å"Bulletproof Love† Vic actually started singing at the back of the venue and then incorporated the crowd by asking them if they could help him get back to the stage and he crowd surfed back to the main stage. This made the show more fun because you got to see how excited the crowd was and just showed that the band themselves cared that the fans were having fun. No one in the room wanted the show to end, so once the band walked off the stage we all wanted to hear more. For about a minute to a minute the entire room chanted â€Å"One more song!† The band could not resist they came back out and performed one of my favorite songs; Caraphernalia. Even though you could tell that they were all tired and just ready to relax and be done they came back on stage! Their Selfish Machines album is amazing! I encourage anybody who likes post hard-core music to listen to this band. Their music is amazing, catchy, and upbeat. They have also recently released that they are going to start recording a new album soon. I hope that everyone who reads this looks into this band because I have nothing but good things to say about them!

Translate Your Own Stories †Perks for the Multilingual Writer

Translate Your Own Stories – Perks for the Multilingual Writer If you are fluent in more than one language, you may want to consider translating your own manuscripts. Here are six reasons why you should give it a try. 1 Practice makes perfect The good news is you dont need to be a professional translator to tackle a translation project. While I happen to hold a degree in translation, I learned that it is something you become good at with practice, just like writing. And being a writer, you already have a solid foundation of knowledge and techniques that will help make the process easier. The trick, of course, is not to make your writing sound like a translation. Otherwise, dont bother sending it to Hope (or most editors, for that matter). I have it on good authority that this will not endear her to your work! 2 Spot and eliminate flaws If your story or article is unpublished, translating it into another language allows you to take a step back from your work and see it from a different perspective. Its an excellent way to pinpoint flaws and weaknesses. For instance, if a sentence does not translate well, theres a very good chance that it is poorly written. Simply rewrite it until it flows smoothly in both languages. As you go along, you will sharpen your editing and revising skills as well. 3 Boost your creativity Translating your own unpublished manuscripts is not as restricting as translating texts that have appeared in print (either yours or someone elses) or which have been requested 4 Double your chances of success 5 Give your stories a second life If a particular piece is already published, check your contract to make sure you have retained the translation rights. If so, you will be free to approach new publishers in your target language. In this instance, you may not have as much creative leeway during the translation process, but you will still be able to strengthen weak words and sentences in the translated text. 6 Get unstuck Finally, if you are stuck for inspiration or suffering from writers block, translating your own stories can help you get back in the flow. You wont have to deal with a dreaded blank page or wrestle your muse for inspiration - but it could lead you to new ideas and opportunities!

Business plan - It Shoes Business Plan Term Paper

Business plan - It Shoes Business Plan - Term Paper Example lthough companies like Rollasole and Afterheels are selling ballerina shoes through vending machines in countries like UK, USA and Australia but they their penetration in French market is low hence IT shoes has the opportunity to cater to the demands of an untouched market (Fleming, â€Å"Flat shoes in a flash! Vending machines that dispense ballet flats to stiletto-sore party girls take U.S. clubs by storm†). The business venture has the opportunity to consolidate business opportunities in the country due to absence of any market leader. Stable political environment of France has increased the business opportunity for both foreign companies who planning to invest in the country and domestic players who planning to diversify existing business portfolio. Market line (2012) has reported that, government of France has restricted foreign direct invest up to 1, 500, 000 Euros for foreign companies planning to expand business in territories such as Saint Pierre, Miquelon, Wallis and Futuna etc. Government has imposed high corporate tax on foreign players in order to protect interest of domestic players. There is no doubt that favorable government policy will protect IT shoes from competitive threat of foreign players. Conjoint effect of economic recession and sovereign debt crisis has decreased the GDP growth rate and purchasing power parity of people of France. French government is trying to compensate high level of external debt by increasing tax rate on people. Market line (2012) has reported that tax burden on people of France has increased by 20% to 30% within last few years. Increased tax burden has reduced amount of disposable income for French people, which has resulted in reduction in demand for retail merchandises. It is evident from the economic analysis of France, IT shoes should think about using competitive pricing in order to generate demand among customers. Market line (2012) has reported that almost 35% of population in France belongs to the age group

Reserve Banking Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 2

Reserve Banking - Essay Example There are two types of banking system that is the fractional banking system, and the 100% reserve banking system. This paper is a comparison and a contrast of these two types of banking system. The 100% reserve banking system is a practice whereby the full amounts of the funds of a depositor are made available to him or her at any given time. In the current global business environment, this system of banking does not exist. This is ever since the 1800s. The major reason is because banking organizations need to make profits, and having a 100% reserve banking system makes it difficult for these organizations to make money (Quagliariello, 17). Therefore, banking organizations and institutions would trade with the deposits in their vaults, for purposes of making profits. These trades involves, issuing of loans, mortgages, and involving themselves in the money market. However, in order to make some money, banking organizations that operates under a 100% reserve banking system, are involved in charging their customers some money, just for purposes of making them to be able to access their services. Lending in this kind of a system normally occurs when there is a separate arrangement, between the depositor and the banking organization, where the depositor is required to authorize the banking organization to lend some of his or her money. This is in direct contrast to the fractional system of reserve banking (Quagliariello, 27). Under this type of banking system, only a fraction of the depositor’s money is able to stay in the banking vaults, and the rest of the rest of the money are used for purposes of trade. Banks normally loan out these money, at an interest. Banks normally carry out this activity, through a vehicle referred to as a certificate of deposit. This system normally works, when the banking organization takes the money that is not needed by the customer, and it

The Persuasive Message Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

The Persuasive Message - Assignment Example During the Reclassification Program, six extra workers were transferred to my department from Public Relations department (two employees) and from Financial Monitoring department (four employees), and made work under six experienced workers. However, extra workplaces for employees on reclassification have never been specifically prepared and equipped due to their new positions. New workers of External Relations department have stayed on their previous workplaces in Public Relations department and Financial Monitoring department on a fourth floor, room 403 and 404 correspondently. Due to the nature of reclassification process, extra workers tend to experience problems and seek the advice of experienced personnel who they were made to work upon, and experienced workers often have to leave their workplaces and go on a fourth floor to consult new workers. Conversely, new workers have to go on a second floor to receive the qualified advice. Therefore, despite the encouraging first statist ical results of the Reclassification Program, I’m forced to ask you to reconsider working conditions of External Relations department and consolidate both its qualified and new workers within a single floor and a single

Cloud Computing Advantages and Disadvantages

Cloud Computing Advantages and Disadvantages Cloud computing has changed the landscape of business today. Through cloud computing many companies has improved their performance through reengineering their business process both internally and externally. In this section we will look at some of the companies who have adopted the cloud computing and gain advantage from it. Amazon Industry Type: Online Retailer Amazon is the biggest online retailer in the market right now. It is among first who adopted the cloud technology for its online retail store. They are the pioneers of online consumer sales with a supply chain management that has an edge over other competitors in the market. They started off by first creating in-house cloud solution for their own IT. In the starting Amazon created a core online e-commerce website and packing service. Gradually when the e-commerce platform started improving, Amazon started offering it as a service to third-party vendors. Then they started on developing in-house, technology-driven solutions for their operations were initially outsourced, and later on offer these solutions as an external service to third-party businesses. Later as their cloud solution model mature they started of offering their web service to other vendors. With this Amazon strategy shifted from online retailer to B2B service as they started offering a stack of critical infrastructure as a service to other business. Today, more than two million third-party sellers account for 40 percent of Amazons sales. Amazon with its successful marketplace keeps on scaling and improving its technology have a developed a improve supply chain by focusing on warehousing and logistic components. Amazons approach of leveraging technology and scale to reduce costs will change the future of the supply chain in coming times as they have now started offering outsourced consolidation for international sellers in 2014, leveraging bulk discounts for cheaper U.S. import rates. Amazon is driven by either the customer satisfaction or to increase their market share for which they have a cleared define structure: Identify inefficiencies, Develop a technological solution, Scale the solution into a platform, Offer the platform as a novel solution for third-party businesses. ABOF (Aditya Birla Online Fashion) Industry: Fashion The abof (Aditya Birla Online Fashion) is an online fashion store of Aditya Birlas group. They developed a web store that provides 3D virtual trial room that enables customers to see how clothing items look on them by providing their body dimension data in the application. The website also provides a style quiz to help personalize the service it provides to customers. The Challenge The company did not wanted to have an infrastructure comprising various physical hardware such as servers, storage, and networks in an on-premise or collocated datacenter for running the web store because of the scalability issue. The business expected that an increase in demand for apparel, footwear, and accessories and that would spike during sales and other promotional events. This will impose a sizable cost burden on the business as they would have to purchase new computer and other resources, and there is always a risk that these resources will be underused during non-peak periods. Also they were not in favour of hiring any technical personnel for maintaining these resources. The Solution So the company chose AWS (Amazon Web Service) because of ease of use and rich array of services that can be utilize to optimize the performance of its online store. The online store launched in late 2015, with the IBM technology stack powering the e-commerce service all-in on AWS. The store infrastructure operates in the AWS Asia-Pacific (Singapore) Region and uses multiple Availability Zones for redundancy. They use following solution from AWS and IBM for running the online web store: Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances run the IBM WebSphere Commerce Suite An IBM DB2 relational database that runs e-commerce store-related datasets also runs in Amazon EC2 Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS). Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) stores content such as product images and videos Amazon CloudFront improves the websites performance by distributing content to users with low latency and high data transfer speeds. Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) to store Amazon EC2 instance and web server logs. The Benefits Multiple instances can be created instantly to update and create new software which provide agility to innovate quickly and compete effectively in the crowded online shopping marketplace. Process for scaling the infrastructure was automated to support demand peaks generated by campaigns that encourage customers to visit the website and purchase products. Good performance and availability of online store to customers with 99.999 percent infrastructure availability with AWS, and an average page loading time of around 1.5 seconds. Lower total cost of running abof on AWS as compared to a physical infrastructure in an on-premises or hosted datacenter. 3M Health Information Systems Industry : Health Care Service 3M Health Information Systems (3M HIS), based in Salt Lake City, Utah, is one of the worlds largest providers of software for the healthcare industry whose healthcare applications like 360 Encompass System are used throughout the United State by hospitals to integrate their clinical documentation and coding workflows. The organization provides solutions in more than 20 countries and 7,500 hospitals worldwide. The Challenge A core part the company software solutions uses natural-language processing to automatically create medical codes, which are critical to both clinicians and the business of healthcare delivery and is very critical for healthcare-system workflow. For this multiple IT centers and collocated environments were used to support it. However, this approach led to major challenges as many activities required more computing power and storage capacity at certain hours of the day. Moreover, the agility to develop and deploy new applications faster was need of the hour. The Solution After a thorough analysis, the company decided to use AWS as it has the best infrastructure and performance to meet its needs. So they started off by migrating several important applications to the AWS Cloud. The organization worked closely with AWS Professional Services, which provided the expert architecture and configuration guidance required to accelerate the migration. The applications utilizes following service Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) running hundreds of instances Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), which helps the organization operate and scale its relational database deployments. AWS-managed CodeCommit source-control service to host private Git repositories AWS CodeDeploy to automate deployment AWS CloudFormation to automate infrastructure-all supporting a DevOps culture AWS CodePipeline to manage continuous integration and continuous delivery deployment workflows. AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) to meet its regulatory and security requirements. The Benefits Applications running on AWS, effortlessly scale up or down without the need to acquire and provision servers months in advance. By using AWS services developers were able to innovate faster which lead to increase efficiency. As it continues to migrate more of its applications to AWS, 3M HIS expects to create and implement innovative new healthcare software for its customers. Dangote Industries Limited Industry : Manufacturing Dangote Group is one of Nigerias most diversified business conglomerates with a hard earned reputation for excellent business practices and products quality. Its operational headquarter is located in the bustling metropolis of Lagos, Nigeria. The Challenge The company was struggling to keep it datacenters, server and network up and running due to poor power supply and lengthy lead time to acquire hardware parts for these resources. The company was unable to operate it on-premises hardware at 100% due to that lack of external environment factor so their systems were neither reliable nor resilience.ÂÂ   And a new refinery project in hand this issue has become critical. The Solution The company find the solution by moving to a hybrid enterprise cloud model. Revenge in Emily Brontes Wuthering Heights Essay -- Wuthering Heights

Wuthering Heights:  Ã‚   Revenge – The Strongest Theme  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     When Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte, first appeared in 1847, it was thought to be obscene and crude (Chase 19).   To the common person, it was shocking and offensive, and it did not gain popularity until long after it was first published.   When the piece of literature became widely read and discussed, however, Bronte was declared as a â€Å"romantic rebel against repressive conventions and a writer who made passion part of novelistic tradition† (Chase 19).   Unlike earlier writers, Bronte used factors from her own life and passions that she personally held to construct her classic novel.   For example, Joseph’s bible-thumper character most likely symbolizes her father, who was a minister.   However, Bronte’s book is not only a breakthrough to literature in these ways.   The narration of the story is also very unique and divergent because there are multiple narrators.   Bronte’s character Lockwood is used to narrate the introductory a nd concluding sections of the novel whereas Nelly Dean narrates most of the storyline.   It’s interesting that Nelly Dean is used because of her biased opinions.   In addition, the structure of Wuthering Heights displays a uniqueness.   Just as Elizabethan plays have five acts, Wuthering Heights is composed of two â€Å"acts,† the times before and after Catherine’s death.   However, unlike stereotypical novels, Wuthering Heights has no true heroes or villains.   â€Å"Although this work was written in the Romantic Period, it is not a romance.   There are no true heroes or villain... ...built up anger and resentment inside him and towards others.   The hurt that Hindley feels is clearly understood, but sympathy for Hindley is only temporary because it is still his own fault for his predicaments.   Hindley’s loss of Wuthering Heights to Heathcliff and his mysterious death reflect how revenge does not make anything better, only worse.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Bronte corroborates that revenge is not only a harsh and rash way to live life, but is counter-productive and hurtful.   Out of all of her major themes, revenge is the most imminent.   The self-hurt involved with vengeance shows there are better ways to solve conflicts.   Bronte sends a great message across by showing how negative revenge can be.   There is no solution to obeying the spontaneous reaction of this negative reprisal.

The Twilight Saga 4: Breaking Dawn 18. There Are No Words For This.

18. There Are No Words For This. Bella's body, streaming with red, started to twitch, jerking around in Rosalie's arms like she was being electrocuted. All the while, her face was blank – unconscious. It was the wild thrashing from inside the center of her body that moved her. As she convulsed, sharp snaps and cracks kept time with the spasms. Rosalie and Edward were frozen for the shortest half second, and then they broke. Rosalie whipped Bella's body into her arms, and, shouting so fast it was hard to separate the individual words, she and Edward shot up the staircase to the second floor. I sprinted after them. â€Å"Morphine!† Edward yelled at Rosalie. â€Å"Alice – get Carlisle on the phone!† Rosalie screeched. The room I followed them to looked like an emergency ward set up in the middle of a library. The lights were brilliant and white. Bella was on a table under the glare, skin ghostly in the spotlight. Her body flopped, a fish on the sand. Rosalie pinned Bella down, yanking and ripping her clothes out of the way, while Edward stabbed a syringe into her arm. How many times had I imagined her naked? Now I couldn't look. I was afraid to have these memories in my head. â€Å"What's happening, Edward?† â€Å"He's suffocating!† â€Å"The placenta must have detached!† Somewhere in this, Bella came around. She responded to their words with a shriek that clawed at my eardrums. â€Å"Get him OUT!† she screamed. â€Å"He can't BREATHE! Do it NOW!† I saw the red spots pop out when her scream broke the blood vessels in her eyes. ‘The morphine – ,† Edward growled. â€Å"NO! NOW – !† Another gush of blood choked off what she was shrieking. He held her head up, desperately trying to clear her mouth so that she could breathe again. Alice darted into the room and clipped a little blue earpiece under Rosalie's hair. Then Alice backed away, her gold eyes wide and burning, while Rosalie hissed frantically into the phone. In the bright light, Bella's skin seemed more purple and black than it was white. Deep red was seeping beneath the skin over the huge, shuddering bulge of her stomach. Rosalie's hand came up with a scalpel. â€Å"Let the morphine spread!† Edward shouted at her. â€Å"There's no time,† Rosalie hissed. â€Å"He's dying!† Her hand came down on Bella's stomach, and vivid red spouted out from where she pierced the skin. It was like a bucket being turned over, a faucet twisted to full. Bella jerked, but didn't scream. She was still choking. And then Rosalie lost her focus. I saw the expression on her face shift, saw her lips pull back from her teeth and her black eyes glint with thirst. â€Å"No, Rose!† Edward roared, but his hands were trapped, trying to prop Bella upright so she could breathe. I launched myself at Rosalie, jumping across the table without bothering to phase. As I hit her stone body, knocking her toward the door, I felt the scalpel in her hand stab deep into my left arm. My right palm smashed against her face, locking her jaw and blocking her airways. I used my grip on Rosalie's face to swing her body out so that I could land a solid kick in her gut; it was like kicking concrete. She flew into the door frame, buckling one side of it. The little speaker in her ear crackled into pieces. Then Alice was there, yanking her by the throat to get her into the hall. And I had to give it to Blondie – she didn't put up an ounce of fight. She wanted us to win. She let me trash her like that, to save Bella. Well, to save the thing. I ripped the blade out of my arm. ‘Alice, get her out of here!† Edward shouted. â€Å"Take her to Jasper and keep her there! Jacob, I need you!† I didn't watch Alice finish the job. I wheeled back to the operating table, where Bella was turning blue, her eyes wide and staring. â€Å"CPR?† Edward growled at me, fast and demanding. â€Å"Yes!† I judged his face swiftly, looking for any sign that he was going to react like Rosalie. There was nothing but single-minded ferocity. â€Å"Get her breathing! I've got to get him out before – â€Å" Another shattering crack inside her body, the loudest yet, so loud that we both froze in shock waiting for her answering shriek. Nothing. Her legs, which had been curled up in agony, now went limp, sprawling out in an unnatural way. â€Å"Her spine,† he choked in horror. â€Å"Get it out of her!† I snarled, flinging the scalpel at him. â€Å"She won't feel anything now!† And then I bent over her head. Her mouth looked clear, so I pressed mine to hers and blew a lungful of air into it. I felt her twitching body expand, so there was nothing blocking her throat. Her lips tasted like blood. I could hear her heart, thumping unevenly. Keep it going, I thought fiercely at her, blowing another gust of air into her body. You promised. Keep your heart beating. I heard the soft, wet sound of the scalpel across her stomach. More blood dripping to the floor. The next sound jolted through me, unexpected, terrifying. Like metal being shredded apart. The sound brought back the fight in the clearing so many months ago, the tearing sound of the newborns being ripped apart. I glanced over to see Edward's face pressed against the bulge. Vampire teeth – a surefire way to cut through vampire skin. I shuddered as I blew more air into Bella. She coughed back at me, her eyes blinking, rolling blindly. â€Å"You stay with me now, Bella!† I yelled at her. â€Å"Do you hear me? Stay! You're not leaving me. Keep your heart beating!† Her eyes wheeled, looking for me, or him, but seeing nothing. I stared into them anyway, keeping my gaze locked there. And then her body was suddenly still under my hands, though her breathing picked up roughly and her heart continued to thud. I realized the stillness meant that it was over. The internal beating was over. It must be out of her. It was. Edward whispered, â€Å"Renesmee.† So Bella'd been wrong. It wasn't the boy she'd imagined. No big surprise there. What hadn't she been wrong about? I didn't look away from her red-spotted eyes, but I felt her hands lift weakly. â€Å"Let me†¦,† she croaked in a broken whisper. â€Å"Give her to me.† I guess I should have known that he would always give her what she wanted, no matter how stupid her request might be. But I didn't dream he would listen to her now. So I didn't think to stop him. Something warm touched my arm. That right there should have caught my attention. Nothing felt warm to me. But I couldn't look away from Bella's face. She blinked and then stared, finally seeing something. She moaned out a strange, weak croon. â€Å"Renes†¦ mee. So†¦ beautiful.† And then she gasped – gasped in pain. By the time I looked, it was too late. Edward had snatched the warm, bloody thing out of her limp arms. My eyes flickered across her skin. It was red with blood – the blood that had flowed from her mouth, the blood smeared all over the creature, and fresh blood welling out of a tiny double-crescent bite mark just over her left breast. â€Å"No, Renesmee,† Edward murmured, like he was teaching the monster manners. I didn't look at him or it. I watched only Bella as her eyes rolled back into her head. With a last dull ga-lump, her heart faltered and went silent. She missed maybe half of one beat, and then my hands were on her chest, doing compressions, i counted in my head, trying to keep the rhythm steady. One. Two. Three. Four. Breaking away for a second, I blew another lungful of air into her. I couldn't see anymore. My eyes were wet and blurry. But I was hyperaware of the sounds in the room. Theunwillingglug-glug of her heart under my demanding hands, the pounding of my own heart, and another – a fluttering beat that was too fast, too light. I couldn't place it. I forced more air down Bella's throat. â€Å"What are you waiting for?† I choked out breathlessly, pumping her heart again. One. Two. Three. Four. â€Å"Take the baby,† Edward said urgently. ‘Throw it out the window.† One. Two. Three. Four. â€Å"Give her to me,† a low voice chimed from the doorway. Edward and I snarled at the same time. One. Two. Three. Four. â€Å"I've got it under control,† Rosalie promised. â€Å"Give me the baby, Edward. Til take care of her until Bella †¦Ã¢â‚¬ I breathed for Bella again while the exchange took place. The fluttering thumpa-thumpa-thumpa faded away with distance. â€Å"Move your hands, Jacob.† I looked up from Bella's white eyes, still pumping her heart for her. Edward had a syringe in his hand – all silver, like it was made from steel. â€Å"What's that?† His stone hand knocked mine out of the way. There was a tiny crunch as his blow broke my little finger. In the same second, he shoved the needle straight into her heart. â€Å"My venom,† he answered as he pushed the plunger down. I heard the jolt in her heart, like he'd shocked her with paddles. â€Å"Keep it moving,† he ordered. His voice was ice, was dead. Fierce and unthinking. Like he was a machine. I ignored the healing ache in my finger and started pumping her heart again. It was harder, as if her blood was congealing there – thicker and slower. While I pushed the now-viscous blood through her arteries, I watched what he was doing. It was like he was kissing her, brushing his lips at her throat, at her wrists, into the crease at the inside of her arm. But I could hear the lush tearing of her skin as his teeth bit through, again and again, forcing venom into her system at as many points as possible. I saw his pale tongue sweep along the bleeding gashes, but before this could make me either sick or angry, I realized what he was doing. Where his tongue washed the venom over her skin, it sealed shut. Holding the poison and the blood inside her body. I blew more air into her mouth, but there was nothing there. Just the lifeless rise of her chest in response. I kept pumping her heart, counting, while he worked manically over her, trying to put her back together. All the king's horses and all the king's men†¦ But there was nothing there, just me, just him. Working over a corpse. Because that's all that was left of the girl we both loved. This broken, bled-out, mangled corpse. We couldn't put Bella together again. I knew it was too late. I knew she was dead. I knew it for sure because the pull was gone. I didn't feel any reason to be here beside her. She wasn't here anymore. So this body had no more draw for me. The senseless need to be near her had vanished. Or maybe moved was the better word. It seemed like I felt the pull from the opposite direction now. From down the stairs, out the door. The longing to get away from here and never, ever come back. â€Å"Go, then,† he snapped, and he hit my hands out of the way again, taking my place this time. Three fingers broken, it felt like. I straightened them numbly, not minding the throb of pain. He pushed her dead heart faster than I had. â€Å"She's not dead,† he growled. â€Å"She's going to be fine.† I wasn't sure he was talking to me anymore. Turning away, leaving him with his dead, I walked slowly to the door. So slowly. I couldn't make my feet move faster. This was it, then. The ocean of pain. The other shore so far away across the boiling water that I couldn't imagine it, much less see it. I felt empty again, now that I'd lost my purpose. Saving Bella had been my fight for so long now. And she wouldn't be saved. She'd willingly sacrificed herself to be torn apart by that monster's young, and so the fight was lost. It was all over. I shuddered at the sound coming from behind me as I plodded down the stairs – the sound of a dead heart being forced to thud. I wanted to somehow pour bleach inside my head and let it fry my brain. To burn away the images left from Bella's final minutes. I'd take the brain damage if I could get rid of that – the screaming, the bleeding, the unbearable crunching and snapping as the newborn monster tore through her from the inside out___ I wanted to sprint away, to take the stairs ten at a time and race out the door, but my feet were heavy as iron and my body was more tired than it had ever been before. I shuffled down the stairs like a crippled old man. I rested at the bottom step, gathering my strength to get out the door. Rosalie was on the clean end of the white sofa, her back to me, cooing and murmuring to the blanket-wrapped thing in her arms. She must have heard me pause, but she ignored me, caught up in her moment of stolen Rjesavate i>itanje brqj 10 odiikiiiio 11 Koje od dole navednih tvrdnji su tacne. 1. Rosalie had what she wanted, and Bella would never come to take the creature from her. I wondered if that's what the poisonous blonde had been hoping for all along. She held something dark in her hands, and there was a greedy sucking sound coming from the tiny murderer she held. The scent of blood in the air. Human blood. Rosalie was feeding it. Of course it would want blood. What else would you feed the kind of monster that would brutally mutilate its own mother? It might as well have been drinking Bella's blood. Maybe it was. My strength came back to me as I listened to the sound of the little executioner feeding. Strength and hate and heat – red heat washing through my head, burning but erasing nothing. The images in my head were fuel, building up the inferno but refusing to be consumed. I felt the tremors rock me from head to toe, and I did not try to stop them. Rosalie was totally absorbed in the creature, paying no attention to me at all. She wouldn't be quick enough to stop me, distracted as she was. Sam had been right. The thing was an aberration – its existence went against nature. A black, soulless demon. Something that had no right to be. Something that had to be destroyed. It seemed like the pull had not been leading to the door after all. I could feel it now, encouraging me, tugging me forward. Pushing me to finish this, to cleanse the world of this abomination. Rosalie would try to kill me when the creature was dead, and I would fight back. I wasn't sure if I would have time to finish her before the others came to help. Maybe, maybe not. I didn't much care either way. I didn't care if the wolves, either set, avenged me or called the Cullens' justice fair. None of that mattered. All I cared about was my own justice. My revenge. The thing that had killed Bella would not live another minute longer. If Bella'd survived, she would have hated me for this. She would have wanted to kill me personally. But I didn't care. She didn't care what she had done to me – letting herself be slaughtered like an animal. Why should I take her feelings into account? And then there was Edward. He must be too busy now – too far gone in his insane denial, trying to reanimate a corpse – to listen to my plans. So I wouldn't get the chance to keep my promise to him, unless – and it was not a wager I'd put money on – I managed to win the fight against Rosalie, Jasper, and Alice, three on one. But even if I did win, I didn't think I had it in me to kill Edward. Because I didn't have enough compassion for that. Why should I let him get away from what he'd done? Wouldn't it be more fair – more satisfying – to let him live with nothing, nothing at all? It made me almost smile, as filled with hate as I was, to imagine it. No Bella. No killer spawn. And also missing as many members of his family as I was able to take down. Of course, he could probably put those back together, since i wouldn't be around to burn them. Unlike Bella, who would never be whole again. I wondered if the creature could be put back together. I doubted it. It was part Bella, too – so it must have inherited some of her vulnerability. I could hear that in the tiny, thrumming beat of its heart. Its heart was beating. Hers wasn't. Only a second had passed as I made these easy decisions. The trembling was getting tighter and faster. I coiled myself, preparing to spring at the blond vampire and rip the murderous thing from her arms with my teeth. Rosalie cooed at the creature again, setting the empty metal bottle-thing aside and lifting the creature into the air to nuzzle her face against its cheek. Perfect. The new position was perfect for my strike. I leaned forward and felt the heat begin to change me while the pull toward the killer grew – it was stronger than I'd ever felt it before, so strong it reminded me of an Alpha's command, like it would crush me if I didn't obey. This time I wanted to obey. The murderer stared past Rosalie's shoulder at me, its gaze more focused than any newborn creature's gaze should be. Warm brown eyes, the color of milk chocolate – the exact same color that Bella's had been. My shaking jerked to a stop; heat flooded through me, stronger than before, but it was a new kind of heat – not a burning. It was a glowing. Everything inside me came undone as I stared at the tiny porcelain face of the half-vampire, half-human baby. All the lines that held me to my life were sliced apart in swift cuts, like clipping the strings to a bunch of balloons. Everything that made me who I was – my love for the dead girl upstairs, my love for my father, my loyalty to my new pack, the love for my other brothers, my hatred for my enemies, my home, my name, my se/f – disconnected from me in that second – snip, snip, snip – and floated up into space. I was not left drifting. A new string held me where I was. Not one string, but a million. Not strings, but steel cables. A million steel cables all tying me to one thing – to the very center of the universe. I could see that now – how the universe swirled around this one point. I'd never seen the symmetry of the universe before, but now it was plain. The gravity of the earth no longer tied me to the place where I stood. It was the baby girl in the blond vampire's arms that held me here now. Renesmee. From upstairs, there was a new sound. The only sound that could touch me in this endless instant. A frantic pounding, a racing beat†¦ A changing heart.

Are Book Signings Too Old-Fashioned

Are Book Signings Too Old-Fashioned This past week, a new author with a newly-released book asked how I approached libraries about holding a book signing. The question took me aback a second, because from my experiences over these last few years, theres almost no such thing as just a signing anymore. Out of my response to her, I molded this weeks essay. First, I dont ask libraries for a book signing. I suggest a presentation for their customers. While books are set up in the back of the room for sale, thats not the point of the event. Libraries are educational, and writers have to think beyond just autographs. Signings When I appear at libraries, Im teaching writing, editing, publishing, marketing, and mysteries, not appearing to talk about s elling my books. Thats not to say that my books arent woven into the presentation. But your chances improve for acceptance if you approach libraries with more opportunity for them than for you. The author responded that she didnt want to promote herself, only wanted readers to buy the book. So I replied: If readers only wanted the book, they wouldnt want the signatures or the appearances and would just order the thing from Amazon. Readers want more of authors these days. They want to know the details behind the book, behind the author. Promotion is a big deal  with so many people writing a book. Consider these appearances as events, more than book selling. Otherwise, you will continue selling five books here and five books there forever. There have been events where I sold not a single bookhowever, I found ways to have my appearance paid for. Yes, Im am paid to appear at most library functions. My library events alone were about $8,000 of my income this year, because I was willing to speak about writing, publishing, editing, and the magic behind mysteries, making the books secondary. Its a balance, and you learn as you go. Become more than the author of a book. Assure librarians you are there for them. Become a professional author with the book being a tool. Thats how you begin accruing  a writing income.

France bans the word hashtag - Emphasis

France bans the word hashtag France bans the word hashtag Sacrà © bleu! France has added hashtag to its list of banned English words, writes Cathy Relf. The Acadà ©mie franà §aise, the state body appointed to protect the French language, has announced that the English word is to be eschewed in favour of the French mot-dià ¨se. Mot-dià ¨se has attracted some criticism, partly because it cant actually be written as a Twitter hashtag itself, as it contains a hyphen. Its also inaccurate, say its critics, because dià ¨se is the name of the musical sharp symbol (â™ ¯), which is vertically aligned, unlike the slanted hashtag symbol (#). Nevertheless, hashtag has joined the list of 5,509-and-counting English words that the Acadà ©mie says must be avoided in official government documents, as well as by schoolteachers and the media. Other frowned-upon English terms, and their French replacements, include: breaking news informations de dernià ¨re minute early adopter acheteur pionnier email address adresse de courrier à ©lectronique spin doctor faà §onneur dimage usability/user friendliness convivialità © virtual shopping achat sur simulation à ©lectronique. French language in crisis The list of banned words is part of a drive by the French government to reverse the trend for adopting Anglo Saxon words, following a report in 2008 that found the French language was in deep crisis. The report called for an offensive to ensure that French is developed in a confident manner. It said: This is a battle in which the real stakes are measured in terms of both political influence and economic growth. But can government policies really influence the words that the public adopt and use? Only time will tell. The main challenge may be that the English words on the list are catchier and more succinct than the recommended French alternatives. Courrier à ©lectronique rather than email is that really going to catch on? Herve Bourges, one of the authors of the report, himself admits: In France, the concept of Francophonie appears retrogressive, obsolete and unheard especially among the younger generations. Wordy French alternatives to snappy English terms are unlikely to help change this. French words in English French and English have been borrowing, adopting and adapting words from each other for nearly 1,000 years, since the Norman conquest in 1066. More than a third of all English words are derived directly or indirectly from French, and its estimated that English speakers who have never studied French already know 15,000 French words. Dont believe it? Test yourself here. Some of the words and phrases that weve borrowed or adapted from French are easy to spot raison dà ªtre, bon appà ©tit and piedterre, for example while others are less immediately obvious, such as entrepreneur, sergeant and repartee. Often, the French words we use add a little je ne sais quoi, a touch of the risquà © or simply an à ©là ©gance lacking in the English equivalent. Fat liver, for example, doesnt sound anywhere near as appetising as foie gras. Touchà ©, originally a fencing term, has a succinctness that youve got me cant touch. A rendezvous sounds sexier than a meeting, a soiree more intriguing than a party. Brown-haired woman lacks the sauciness of brunette (a word rarely used in modern French). And in the case of blond(e), weve not only adopted the word, but the masculine/feminine spelling convention too. A fair exchange? English would certainly be a less interesting and expressive language if we were to somehow root out and remove the French influence. Perhaps there is a trade to be had. As we benefit from the French gift for elegance, so they can benefit from our gift for getting to the point. Or, is the Acadà ©mie right to take action? Has the exchange now become too weighted in one direction, and are measures needed to protect the French language? What do you think?

Intellectual Property Law, Scenario based question Essay

Intellectual Property Law, Scenario based question - Essay Example Marina and Ms. Leona developed a concept while at college and used it upon graduation to develop related products and market them through the companies they had established. Their products, known as the ‘Bus Weasel’ and the ‘Tube Ferrett’, operate by sourcing data from GPS locators on public vehicles and video images from CCTVs in the London underground to estimate the amount of congestion at various traffic points and compute alternative, less congested routes that the users of these products may take to overcome potential delays. The two products described above have faced intense criticism through the publication of a book titled ‘Rush Hour Weasel’ that has not only criticized their concept, but has also projected them as threats to public security. Further, another company is marketing a similar product known as the ‘Metro Rat’ in the cities of New York and Paris and hopes to expand into other locations. Under these circumstances, Maria and Leona (henceforth referred to as the Clients), who maintain registered trademarks for all their products, logos, brand names and slogans, face the potential threat to their business from various corners. The subsequent chapters will highlight some of the avenues that the clients can adopt in order to mitigate the risks faced by their companies and products s using the laws for intellectual property. There will also be an elaborate focus on utilizing these laws to identify areas for charging the publishers and the competitor on relevant grounds to make up for any damage caused. A copyright is an intellectual property that provides exclusive rights to the owner of an original piece of work for a specific period of time. A copyright covers several aspects concerning the intellectual property ranging from its use and distribution to its publication and adaptation1.
